Research Proves Twitter Prevents Blindness

Frequently, I am asked, what is Twitter? This question comes from people who are very familiar with Facebook, and internet marketing. And it’s a valid question.
Twitter is like a text message, only it’s sent to everyone on the internet. Once I answer that question, all my friends want to know ‘why do I use Twitter,’ what’s the purpose they ask, and why would people want to know what I’m doing?
Well Twitter is more than just letting people know what I’m doing, that’s only the beginning. When I use Twitter, I’m insured that my messages will be delivered 100% of the time to a highly targeted niche audience. Email marketers don’t even have that high of a deliverability rate. Twitter lets me send messages to people who are interested in what I have to say, and we get an opportunity to connect, and communicate about the things we have in common.
Quite simply, Twitter lets you contact people following someone else you know. You don’t have to look very hard, if you are an unknown social medial expert wannabe, follow the top social media experts. Then contact the people following the real social medial expert and request they follow you as well. The good thing is that most likely those people will follow you back. Twitter is a perfect case of the law of reciprocity at work.
Many people join Twitter and want to know how to get lots of followers. One trick that’s been pretty successful for me has been to seek people in my niche. You can do a keyword search on Twitter to find people who are inherently interested in what you are offering. Once you locate those people who share your interests, follow them so they can follow you back. Next begin branding yourself and creating relationships with your new followers by sending them valuable messages.
Here’s a key to sure success on Twitter: wait a couple of weeks before you send messages to your followers that have links in them. Let your followers get to know and trust you first. Remember you are building a brand, and image and credibility must be established before people will want to do business with you. So work on creating relevant tweets. Offer value and benefit with your tweets and people will be more likely to share your tweets (retweet) with their friends.
If you position yourself as a problem solver, then your tweets on Twitter will be welcomed. On the other hand, if you begin your Twitter career with lots of affiliate links then you will certainly give your followers the impression that you are a spammer. Nothing makes people unfollow you quicker than a bunch of overwhelming marketing messages.
Once you’ve searched for new followers using your targeted niche keywords, make sure you only add 100 people per day. When you have a new Twitter account, it’s important not to add anymore than 100 new followers per day or else the Twitter administration might revoke your account.
After 3-5 days, you will want to delete those people who are not following you back. Twitter will only allow your list of followers to grow according to the amount of people you have following you. At any given time you want to have more people following you than you are following. Get rid of all the ‘dead followers’ by manually deleting them.
When you begin tweeting, make sure you are sending messages to your followers 4-5 times per week minimum. Again, don’t try to sell anything in the first couple of weeks or else you will frighten your followers away before they even get a chance to know you.
If you have a blog, use this time to prepare good, solid content that your followers will want to read. After the two weeks are up, then start mixing your tweets with your links. Also once a week begin following your niche expert followers.
Try to participate in Follow Friday activities. Follow Friday on Twitter is a weekly opportunity to recognize and recommend your followers to others. People love to be recognized, and when your followers see you are recommending them, they will in turn recommend you to their followers. This is another opportunity for you to gain new followers.
The only way you are going to be successful on Twitter and gain a lot of followers is if you work this plan continuously and stick to it. You must do these steps over and over again in order for it to work. Persistence and patience is paramount with Twitter, and if you keep doing these things over and over, you will find your list of Twitter followers growing exponentially.

Your tips along with Illeanes idea to use a follow tool are quite useful. I do a little of both. I grow my follow list organically by finding folks I like to read and click the follow button, plus I use a tool to auto follow, this helps to keep my numbers up for Sponsored Tweets.
I don’t participate in #FF anymore because I have found that it causes a lot of clutter on Twitter and most folks don’t read those tweets anymore.

that’s interesting you don’t use #FF anymore Ms. Freeman. I use it to acknowledge publicly those who have retweeted me and commented on my tweets during the week. And I let it be known that this is the reason they are getting a shout out like this. Its like an exclusive group of people who are getting recognized by me. Thanks for commenting.
