Most people become discouraged when they use Twitter.  They complain that it doesn’t work, or how can you get your point across in 140 characters or less?

Here are secret Twitter strategies that you probably are not using:  niche markets and location targeting (and these Twitter tools.)

1. Niche marketing is simply stated, a keyword search of your industry.  Using your own niche, find others on Twitter that are tweeting about the same thing, or are interested in receiving information about that topic.  How do you find others who are on Twitter and looking for your niche?

Understanding who and what your niche market is, will lead you to the road to Twitter marketing success.  Otherwise, you will be using Twitter and each one of your tweets will be like shouting to a group of people in a crowded room: no one will pay any attention to you.

2. Location Targeting:

When Twitter started using geo-targeting (location targeting), it made it so much easier for marketers to focus squarely on a specific locale in their marketing strategies.  Now, as an internet marketer, you can swiftly increase your customer base by adding customers from your city who may be looking for you.  There are several tools you can use to localize your Twitter experience, TwitterLocal (an Adobe Air product) is one of them.

The TwitterLocal AIR Client allows you to watch as many location-based Twitter feeds as you want.  You can also use this Twitter strategy to find more friends to network with!

3. Schedule your Tweets using Hootsuite! Because social media networking is a time killer, its important that internet marketers manage their time appropriately.  Using the web based HootSuite client, you can schedule your Tweets in advance, planning what you want to tweet about as part of your Twitter marketing strategy.  Hootsuite also works with Facebook and MySpace, so now you have an all in one package to use.  Its an insane way to drive traffic, increase revenues and go do other things.  Allowing you to live the real life of a successful internet marketer.

4. Pip.io–I was just turned on to this by Potpolitics as a Twitter Strategy you probably don’t use.  Pip.io will let you do everything that Hootsuite does, except when you create links, Pip.io doesn’t get the page view credit the way Hootsuite does.  I recommend using bit.ly or cli.gs as a URL shortener, so you can keep up with your page views and your Alexa ranking won’t suffer.

5. TwitPic is a neat photo sharing application that I don’t use enough, especially since I like to take photos.  Another secret twitter strategy that can help you gain more followers.  People love graphics, they love pictures.  So, maximize this love of sharing pictures with your Twitter followers.  Result:  gain more followers, ignite conversations, and drive more traffic to your website!

6. TwitterFeed: Another buddy of mine, the Blakester, recommended using my tweets in the form of a feed, so I went in search of a good Twitter Feed strategy and found this one.  TwitterFeed allows you to feed your blog to Twitter and Facebook and more social media sites at once.  If you’re looking for just that one client that will aggregate your efforts, this one is a good one.

7. Secret Twitter Strategy that you are not using–be yourself!  Some people are more comfortable being themselves than others, this is where you weed out the weirdos and unstable folks.  Don’t let a computer intimidate you, just be yourself, let it flow and watch people want to follow you, just because you are you.  Oh and don’t forget to follow me on Twitter:  http://www.twitter.com/lateaserikard
