Some might read this and say, ‘really, do you think I need help on h
ow to comment?’

Yes, you do.

You see, when you leave a comment on a blog, particularly if it is a dofollow blog, then you need to leave a comment that is relevant. It’s like my online instructor once told the class, leave substantive comments only.

Let’s take a look at what a relevant, comment on a blog is.

  1. A relevant comment is one that has something to do with the post topic. If I write a post about walking as a form of exercise, then don’t leave a comment about World War 1. That isn’t relevant.
  2. When you leave relevant comments, remain tactful. Don’t attack other commenters or the blog owner, this could get you banned if the comments are moderated.
  3. Make sure you are contributing to the conversation at hand. Think of commenting as a conversation in a classroom or in a coffee house. You wouldn’t say stupid things to embarrass yourself now would you?
  4. Think about your online reputation when you comment. You never know who is reading a particular blog post. It only takes one or two times to get a bad name, and others will spread the news about you, and bad news spreads quicker than a California wildfire.
  5. Don’t leave comments that have your link and your link only. That’s just out and out spam. Nobody likes spam casserole.
  6. DoFolllow blogs will link back to you anyway. So tip number 5 is a no-brainer.
  7. Look for DoFollow blogs and websites. You don’t always have to look for blogs to leave comments on. There are plenty of media sites, like The Huffington Post, and local newspapers that may have hotbed topics that allow you to leave comments on. Most of them are dofollow.
  8. Leave comments or contribute to conversations in forums. Bloggeries, Digital Point Forums are great examples of highly participatory groups that have engaging members. Once you meet the minimum posting requirements, you can have a signature link below your name. A great way to build backlinks, and drive traffic to your blog.
  9. If you’re an Entrecard dropper, don’t just drop and run. Believe me, you won’t get traffic this way, at least not sticky traffic–and you’ll complain that Entrecard doesn’t work. It does work if you leave a comment or two on other blogs. You know what it feels like to write something only to have no one comment on it.
  10. Don’t just comment to get linkbacks. Again, this goes back to leaving substantive comments. Comment because the post is interesting to you, or that the writer has written something significant.

I know there are probably a lot more tips on leaving comments on other blogs that I might have missed. That’s what you’re here for…let me know, leave a comment. :)
