Check Keyword Optimization For Search Engine Efficiency

CHECK YOUR KEYWORDS

When I first began my blog, I did keyword research (or at least that’s what I thought it was.) I used the Google Adwords Keyword Tool and was so excited from the amount of keywords my initial search returned. Instantly I thought, I will have keyword blog post ideas forever! However, as I would soon find out, my initial keyword optimization research was only the beginning. The answer to correctly doing SEO was just starting.

For this blog, I searched “make money online” and discovered that term was searched 1,000,000 times in Google last month. The keywords column shows the specific keyword that was searched. If you enter “make money online”, the Keywords tool will bring back the 118 keywords containing the word “make money online” that were searched for last month.

The next column is the ‘Advertiser Competition’ column. This column shows the number of advertisers bidding on each keyword relative to all keywords across Google. The shaded bar is a general guide to help you determine how competitive ad placement is for a particular keyword. Generally, you can take that number times 3, in order to estimate the number of times that keyword has been searched within Google for the previous month.

The big mistake I made and a lot of other webmasters make is to assume that by optimizing this keyword, your site will wind up in the top of the Google search pages. That is incorrect, never take the most searched for terms and try to make a niche, blog post, or website around it. Instead, create a niche out of a niche in order to attract more visitors. When you use the highly searched for keywords, you will no doubt get outranked by your competition who are bidding high dollars for those keywords. However, this can actually work in your favor, just a little. If you have a blog, and you write an article based upon the high ranked keywords, your post may ’show’ some of those Adsense ads on your blog, and your limited traffic, might click on one of those ads. Keep in mind, this is all hypothetical, that your visitors ‘might’ click on an ad that ‘might’ show up in your Adsense ads.

Let’s not deal with theory. Let’s look at facts.

It’s always best to start off on the keywords with less competition. Get some traffic with those keywords, and THEN you can focus on the larger keywords.

Take a look at keyword phrases like: “make money online right” which was only searched for 590 times globally last month. Global Monthly Search Volume is the
column which shows the approximate average monthly number of search queries matching each keyword result. This statistic applies to searches performed on Google and the Search Network over a recent 12-month period. It includes traffic in all countries and languages and is specific to your selection from the Match Type drop-down menu. However, this is a good phrase to target as a headline topic. Whenever you write, your headline has to attract people AND the search engines.

A little trick I learned to do is to play with the arrangement of the keyword phrases that are suggested by the Google Keyword Tool. For instance, the title of this blog post is a direct result of playing around with the keyword tool. While writing this post, I discovered that there were only 671,000 websites that had these exact words in its title or somewhere in the body of its content. But, NONE had this exact title. That’s good news for me, once I post this article, I will check to see if my theory holds true that I will gain lots of traffic from people searching for keyword optimization building search engine efficiency.

Also, take a look at your competition, others in your niche that are ranking high in the search engines. Discover what keywords they are using and optimize your posts and your site using variations of those words. Check this by viewing the page source and copying one or two of those keywords into the Google keyword tool. I know I’ve mentioned the Google keyword tool a lot, but there are other free ones out there as well, such as Wordtracker, WebCEO and Trellian. These all have free trial periods, then you may want to upgrade if you like them. Usually I use WebCEO and Google, they work very well for my needs right now as they will you as well.

Google Updates Keyword Interface

Google Buzz
Delicious

This is really going to help.  Now Google updates their keyword tool so that you can discover how often a keyword was found that you used.  Keywords are the search terms (words or phrases) are critical to the success.   A great keyword is:

* Ideally, 2-3 words long
* Specific (keywords that are too broad or general will not reach users as effectively as keywords that are highly targeted)

Directly related to the pagegoogle-keywords-tool

Directly related to the text

Here’s why this is great news:  Now Google will show you some URLs that contain very specific keywords.   This will help when you are looking at competitive analysis and how websites in your niche are optimizing their keywords.  And  the “significance” column in the Google Keyword tool (it compares the frequency of a keyword to the frequency of the most popular keyword on your site) will now show more details, giving you up to 10 different URL’s that are bringing in traffic using those same set of keywords.

In selecting keywords try to do these things:  First, look at your website content and write down every word, word combination or phrase that describes each category of your business. Its a great beginning to developing keyword lists.

Include all brand and product names as well as plurals, synonyms and alternate spellings for each word or phrase. Everything you can think of that relates to that set or keywords.  Don’t worry about capitalization. Remove keywords that are very generic, irrelevant, or serve no benefit.

Then, categorize your keywords into relevant themes and create a new keyword group for each theme. Make it into a game, putting relevant keywords into relevant keyword groups. For example, if your campaign is for digital cameras, you can group together mini digital cameras in one ad group and SLR digital cameras in another.

Using the new Google Keyword Interface makes it simpler for you especially if you’re just getting started in keyword research.

What is Keyword Density?

Google Buzz
Delicious

Find the Best Keywords for Your Business and Drive More Traffic to Your Website!

Keyword density is an indicator of the number of times the selected keyword appears in the web page. But mind you, keywords shouldn’t be over used, but should be just sufficient enough to appear at important places.

If you repeat your keywords with every other word on every line, then your site will probably be rejected as an artificial site or spam site.

Keyword density is always expressed as a percentage of the total word content on a given web page.

Suppose you have 100 words on your webpage (not including HMTL code used for writing the web page), and you use a certain keyword for five times in the content. The keyword density on that page is got by simply dividing the total number of keywords, by the total number of words that appear on your web page. So here it is 5 divided by 100 = .05. Because keyword density is a percentage of the total word count on the page, multiply the above by 100, that is 0.05 x 100 = 5%

The accepted standard for a keyword density is between 3% and 5%, to get recognized by the search engines and you should never exceed it.

Remember, that this rule applies to every page on your site. It also applies to not just to one keyword but also a set of keywords that relates to a different product or service. The keyword density should always be between 3% and 5%.

Simple steps to check the density:

  • Copy and paste the content from an individual web page into a word-processing software program like Word or Word Perfect.
  • Go to the ‘Edit’ menu and click ‘Select All’. Now go to the ‘Tools’ menu and select ‘Word Count’. Write down the total number of words in the page.
  • Now select the ‘Find’ function on the ‘Edit’ menu. Go to the ‘Replace’ tab and type in the keyword you want to find. ‘Replace’ that word with the same word, so you don’t change the text.
  • When you complete the replace function, the system will provide a count of the words you replaced. That gives the number of times you have used the keyword in that page.
  • Using the total word count for the page and the total number of keywords you can now calculate the keyword density.

Using Keywords In Page Titles

Google Buzz
Delicious

Find the Best Keywords for Your Business and Drive More Traffic to Your Website!

It is recommended to use keywords in page titles itself. This title tag is different from a Meta tag, but it’s worth considering it in relation to them. Whatever text one places in the title tag (between the portions) will appear in the title bar of browsers when they view the web page. Some browsers also append whatever you put in the title tag by adding their own name, as for example Microsoft’s Internet Explorer or OPERA.

The actual text you use in the title tag is one of the most important factors in how a search engine may decide to rank your web page. In addition, all major web crawlers will use the text of your title tag as the text they use for the title of your page in your listings.

If you have designed your website as a series of websites or linked pages and not just a single Home Page, you must bear in mind that each page of your website must be search engine optimized. The title of each page i.e. the keywords you use on that page and the phrases you use in the content will draw traffic to your site.

The unique combination of these words and phrases and content will draw customers using different search engine terms and techniques, so be sure you capture all the keywords and phrases you need for each product, service or information page.

The most common mistake made by small business owners when they first design their website is to place their business name or firm name in every title of every page. Actually most of your prospective customers do not bother to know the name of your firm until after they have looked at your site and decided it is worth book marking.

So, while you want your business name in the title of the home page, it is probably a waste of valuable keywords and space to put it in the title line of every page on your site. Why not consider putting keyword in the title so that your page will display closer to the top of the search engine listing.

Dedicating first three positions for keywords in title avoiding the stop words like ‘and’, ‘at’ and the like is crucial in search engine optimization.

Using The Right Keywords Are Keys To Success

Google Buzz
Delicious

For some, keyword analysis and development is a mystery. I know when I first learned about keywords, I was thrown for a loop! It seemed everything I read about keyword density and analysis made me ask more and more questions. Instead of enlightenment, I became more and more confused. So, I thought I might develop this tutorial on keyword-ing…

First of all, there are lots of credible free tools out there you can use to develop the proper keywords for your site. Without keywords, it is difficult for search engines to send traffic to you because your website or blog doesn’t leave any trails to you. Here is what I mean…

Having proper keywords are like a neon business sign. They will attract the people who are looking for what you have to sell. Whether that be a service or a product, keywords help steer your target audience to you. Think of them as digital magnets that are sticky on both sides—one side for the search engines to refer people to you, the other side for visitors to find you.

Keywords are the beginning of the sales relationship…

Many webmasters utilize their keywords in their PPC (pay per click)campaigns. Sometimes a successful PPC campaign is based on accurate keyword selection.

With the proper keyword tool, you can uncover highly targeted words that will give you high search volume with very little competition. Experts in SEO (search engine optimization) use these methods all the time, it is how they remain competitive.

A perfect example of my using proper keywords is my page, “How To Increase Your Technorati Rank”–this page is constantly one of my high traffic pages, all due to keyword selection.

When choosing a keyword tool, make sure it includes a utility that provides you with the most popular keywords on the internet currently–this may tie into Google Trends.

Also look for whether the tool provides keyword variations, similar to drill down techniques where you may select the words–make money online, and it will generate variations on these keywords. That is essential to PPC success as well as optimization success. Sometimes you can identify a niche with proper keyword generation tools.

Usually a good keyword tool will also analyze your website and provide you with feedback to improve it.

There is a new tool out that will also analyze your Adwords campaign. This is an awesome asset if you are using or planning on using Google Adwords.

I will be implementing my first Google Adwords campaign next week, and I was looking for something that would help me. The product I will select is one from my Market Leverage affiliate program. Lucky for me, I also have a $25 coupon code for Adwords, so this will be a monumental step for my internet marketing program.

You should institute a keyword tool, particularly if you want to see instant traffic, and from what I’ve researched and discovered, instant income.
