Keyword Density

By Patrick Oborn

When a Google spider comes across your page, one of the main things it is looking for is the total number of words you use (in visible text) and the keywords relating to your web page; or keyword density. In the early days of the internet, webmasters used to fill their pages up with keywords, repeating them over and over and over again, to try to get top search engine positions. Google and the other search engines wised up to this tactic not long after, and created ’spam’ filters, or thresholds, to eliminate sites from their index that violated these limitations. This eliminated a lot of jokers from the playing field and cleared the way for people willing to work and author genuine content to gain ground in the rankings.

OPTIMUM KEYWORD DENSITY

When you author content for your web site, including press releases, help articles, industry analysis, etc. you need to keep keyword density in the back of your mind. You are writing a ‘mad lib’ around your keyword, making sure that you follow these general guidelines:

  1. Use your keyword 1-2 times for every 100 words
  2. Space the keywords out evenly in your text.
  3. Don’t use the keyword twice in the same sentence
  4. Use your keyword in the ‘ALT’ tags of your graphics
  5. Spell-check the viewable text of your web page – Google most likely deducts relevancy points for poorly written content.

These guidelines will give you the ground rules by which you can create quality content that Google will ‘like’, which is the key to increasing your PageRank and ultimately, your ranking in Google.

Here are some keyword optimized examples:

#1

Is it time to look for T1 service? Many people are confused when they consider whether to upgrade from DSL or not. There are several factors to consider when examining your current DSL connection and the possibility of replacing it. For many people the biggest factor is reliability and if reliability is critical to the applications you run over your connection you should seriously consider replacing your DSL connection with a T1 (also known as a DS1). DSL is a quick and cost effective method of acquiring high speed bandwidth however it is not intended to support commercial applications or large numbers of users as are T1 service connections.

T1 pricing has come down dramatically over the past few years as more telecommunications companies are fighting for a place in a smaller market. While many service providers did have room to lose margin, many have come dangerously close to the edge of selling circuits at a loss with overaggressive pricing and incentives. It seems that in the race to the bottom many providers failed to learn the lesson that selling at a loss does not create a long lasting and healthy company no matter how many circuits or widgets you sell. Many companies selling at a loss have already been in bankruptcy and look like they will repeat this exercise as they did not learn from their first go around. In basic terms, solvency of the T1 internet service provider should be a consideration over T1 pricing when looking at great bargains.

20 Twitter SEO Profile Tips

Google Buzz
  • Delicious

Image representing TinyURL as depicted in Crun...
Image via CrunchBase

I’ve done some studying this past weekend, and I’ve discovered that there are two types of people on Twitter.

  1. Those that use Twitter as a socializing, meet people, connect with people resource and
  2. Those that use Twitter to gain more traffic to their blogs and websites.

Of course, if you’re just using Twitter to connect with colleagues and to socialize, then don’t bother with using these SEO tips to optimize your Twitter profile.  The following Twitter tips won’t mean a hill of beans to you if you only use Twitter to socialize.  However, if you’re using Twitter to increase your Page Rank on your Twitter Profile Page, then keep reading.

Since mid-October 2009, real time search results have been gathered by Google, Bing and Yahoo.  What that means is that your tweets are related to search results and are displayed in the search results in real time.  This means, your tweets now have the ability to provide you with link juice to your blog or website and your Twitter profile.

So, I wanted to know how real time search would effect my Twitter Profile Page and my blog.  Here’s what I found out:

My main two Twitter Profiles @teasastips and @lateaserikard have a Page Rank of 4 and 5 respectively.  I knew I wasn’t doing anything special, no black hat strategies for me.  However, I had amped up my SEO recently.  But, I knew it had to be more to the story than that.  You just don’t get a PR 4 or 5 just from sending tweets on Twitter.

Well apparently, there is a method to the madness.

Tip #1: I discovered that its important to write your Bio on Twitter with keywords.  That is, think about what you are about, what your aim is.  If you blog and write about blogging, then you should write a bio that has keywords relating to helping bloggers.

Tip #2: Always display your URL of your blog/website on your profile page.  Its a great way to get free clicks directly from your Twitter profile, even if it is no-follow.

Tip #3: Try to use the same keywords in your tweets that are also related to your niche.

Tip #4: Place a Twitter widget on the sidebar or footer of your site.  This creates inbound links and gives your profile added exposure.

Tip #5: Participate in do-follow forums and add your Twitter profile link to your signature line.

Tip #6: Follow those tweeters who are from your industry or niche.

Tip #7: Try to get those followers in your niche with high Twitter Profile Rank to follow you back.

Tip #8: The first 27 words of your tweet should include your keywords.  They are very important because Google lists these tweets at the top of the search results.

Tip #9: Make sure you use a URL shortening service like tr.im, bit.ly or TinyURL. I’m going to implement TinyUrl because of the permanent redirect feature.  TinyURL may be the better choice because it redirects users to your real URL via a 301 (the permanent URL).  This provides back links to your content.  The Search Engines don’t index TinyURL’s, but they index and pass Page Rank to the actual URl’s instead.

Tip #10: Place a hashtag (#) before your keywords in your tweets.  Using hashtags make it easier to find your tweets.

Twitter Profile Page Rank For Real?

Tip #11: You should regularly and periodically retweet your content.  Try to retweet (RT) those links that are directly related to your blog niche.

Tip #12: This is very important!  Share your tweets on different social media sites.  I use Plurk, FriendFeed, and Facebook for maximum exposure.

Tip #13: Optimize your title tag, that is, your name on Twitter.  Log into Twitter, and click on settings.  Change your name, do not change your username.  Your name should be the brand you are seeking to optimize and promote.

Tip #14: Tweet high quality content just as you would with conventional SEO.

Tip #15: Encourage others to share and Retweet (RT) your content.  There is no shame in asking for an RT from time to time.  Ask not, want not.

Tip #16: Create content/tweets that is valuable to your audience.  The same way you create valuable content on your website or blog, use this same strategy for Twitter.

Tip #17: Use the words that searchers on Twitter are using.  Locate these words and trends by using Twemes.com or trends on Twitter.

Tip #18: Most of all be real, and use your best judgment.  Remember Twitter is one big conversation, be conversational.

Tip #19: Tweet in order to get your article Retweeted, in order to gain lots of traffic.

Tip #20: Finally, follow me on Twitter because the Page Rank on my @lateaserikard Twitter Profile is PR5.  If you do this you will receive some link juice in return.

A Chance To Engage Readers: The Zemanta Plug-In

Google Buzz
  • Delicious

Image representing Zemanta as depicted in Crun...
Image via CrunchBase

As I was commenting on blogs this morning, I ran across a neat wordpress plug in that allows the opportunity to reblog this content.  I thought to myself, reblogging would be terrific because it would create instant link backs and instant distribution of my content.

To me, that seemed like a great answer to the problem of people not wanting to comment, or not leaving a comment.  The whole purpose of this blog is to help people understand how to use various promotional tools online designed to drive traffic to your blog and make money from the traffic.  So, I installed the Zemanta plug in and so far I am in awe!

Let me tell you why:

As I write my blog post Zemanta locates images, and related articles for me.  In addition, this plug-in suggests tags and keywords that fit my post topic.  For you bloggers who have difficulty discovering keywords for your blog posts, Zemanta just may be your answer.  Also, if you are using the Meta SEO Pack plug in for wordpress, you can use the suggested tags and pop them in the Meta Keywords box for the plug in.  So far, all I can see is good things from this plugin.  It is SEO friendly, gives you instant backlinks, suggests other articles your readers may be interested in, provides and suggests images for your post, offers your readers a chance to reblog your post and suggests tags and in-text links for you.

What are intext links?

In-text links

Adding hyperlinks is easy peasy lemon squeezy with Zemanta’s single-click link suggestions!

As you write your blog post, Zemanta picks out which people and terms are important in the text and recommends links to them. Inserting a link is a one click operation, but if you really want control, you can pick out a different destination from the drop-down (not available on all links).

Try out Zemanta, it can only enhance your blog as well as create an opportunity to further engage your readers.

DIRTY SLEAZY SEO TRICKS TO GET TRAFFIC

Google Buzz
  • Delicious

DIRTY SLEAZY SEO TRICKS

DIRTY SLEAZY SEO TRICKS

Online, one of the most significant keys to success is getting traffic.  The more visitors you have, the better your sales and profits.  By now you have a niche and you know your keywords, and regularly conduct keyword research to stay on top of what’s popular.  Based on those assumptions here are five quick and easy tips to get website traffic fast!

Tip #1  Make sure you’re actually tagging your keywords.

Do you spend a lot of time optimizing your content and then neglect to tag them on your webpage?  Tags are where search engines look and if there are no tags they’ll pass right by your web pages.  Here’s a quick brief on tags.

There are a number of tag types including,

* Title tags.  Title tags are quite possibly the most important place to situate your keywords.  Here’s what they look like – <title>Primary keyword phrase here. </title>

Your title tag is where you place your primary keyword or keyword phrase.  The sentence will describe your business in less than 90 characters.

* Header Tags.  Header tags are next in order of importance to search engines.  They’re ranked in order of importance and look like this – <h1>Primary and/or Secondary keywords here</h1>

The “1” designates this header as the most important header on the page.

* Meta Tags. Meta tags provide the small descriptive text found underneath the title tag on the search engine results page.  Like title tags these should be kept brief, informative and up to date.

* Alt Tags.  Alt tags are used to provide a text description of a graphic.  Each graphic on your site should have a description and an alt tag.

Tip #2 Add content to your site daily

Content is essential for traffic and a top search engine ranking.  Content is what search engine spiders look for and index – without it there’s nothing to index or rank.  Give visitors and search engines a reason to visit and index your site. Make a commitment to provide daily, optimized content and your traffic will soar.

Tip #3 Procure valuable and relevant incoming links

The more websites which link to your webpages the more valuable search engines perceive you to be, though not all links are created equal.  Search engines give more leverage to links from sites which are popular and credible and from sites which are relevant to your website topic.

There are different types of links.

- A direct link looks like a basic website address, for example, www.yourwebsite.com

- A text link occurs when the webpage address is embedded in the text.  Readers simply click on the link and are redirected to a new website page.

- If the link is to an internal web page, for example an article published on a website, rather than the home page, it is called a “deep link.”

You can encourage linking to your website by:

* Adding content to your site.

* Submitting to article directories.

* Publishing press releases.

* Blogging and participating in social networking forums, chat rooms and social networking sites.

Tip #4 Be Social!

Now more than ever before, internet marketing is about building a community.  Whether you offer a forum on your website or you participate in social networking sites, social networking is a valuable traffic generating tactic.  Facebook and Twitter can be powerful tools for generating links and traffic to your site – create a profile and then post comments, links to your site and ideas which generate conversation.

Get involved – many chat rooms and forums are industry specific, find those which cater to your industry, and begin participating.  Speak to and connect with a highly targeted audience.

Tip #5 Advertise for more exposure and traffic

Advertising, when handled strategically, can be used to promote your content and products or services.  PPC advertising is often the tool of choice because you control the advertising budget on a daily basis and have the tools to test and track your advertising efforts.  Once you’ve honed your PPC ads the return on investment can be phenomenal in terms of traffic and purchases.

For maximum results, create a traffic and SEO strategy.  Outline your plan and your goals and then take the necessary action.  Take advantage of these five traffic and search engine tips to boost your business.

SEO Criteria and Guidelines For Your Site

Google Buzz

SEO Guidelines

SEO GUIDELINES

Search engine optimization is important because it improves the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines. Do you want to put your website in the high ranking? Here are some tips you have to consider:

Website Optimization = Content + Links = High Ranking

1. How Google Measures Link Popularity

Higher link popularity scores = Higher search engine ranking

Link popularity is by far the most important factor for determining your search engine ranking. You need to know what link popularity is, why it is so important, and how Google measures your link popularity (over 50% of all search engine traffic comes from Google, and if you can get to the top of Google, you will raise to the top of the others search engines as well).

Link popularity – the number of links (votes) that SE have for your site.

Here is a link for a good tool that measures the link popularity from SE’s. It shows you the link popularity from Google Yahoo and MSN and lets you to see the history report so you to figure out the rise of your site.

http://www.marketleap.com/publinkpop/default.htm

2. Articles:

Consistency is the key. It is a fact that as more and more articles are added to article directories, your article will go lower in the listings, but if you constantly and consistently submit new articles, then you will continue to reap the benefits. Making articles is a great way to build up the link popularity of your website. It gives you life-time links.

• Always close your articles off with a link to your site which is relevant to the copy of the article. Hyperlink the keyword with your url. For example:

Author Bio:

Quote:
“Johnny Brown is an expert in affiliate marketing. Visit his site for more online marketing tips.”

3. Control Your Words.

“Not everything that counts can be counted and not everything that can be counted counts”.

This does not apply to our situation. In the Meta Tags, you must count every word and every keyword. Use a tool like this one to count the characters from your Meta tags.”

http://allworldphone.com/count-words-characters.htm

4. Optimize the Title Tag

• Include 1-2 of your most important keyword phrases in the title tag, but don’t just list keywords.

If you just list keywords, you risk being viewed as spamming the search engines which can ultimately lead to you being blacklisted and not included at all.

• Your title tag should include your keyword phrases within a readable sentence to avoid this problem.

• Make your title appealing to humans!

Don’t forget that even if you get that top listing in the search engines, our listing still needs to say something that makes the surfer want to click your link and visit your site.

• Since the length of your title tag could cause some engines to crop it, we suggest place the keywords at the beginning of the tag when possible to decrease the risk of having them cut off.

Each page of your site should have its own title tag with its own keywords that relate to the page that it appears on.

5. Optimize the Meta Description Tag

• Give appropriate descriptions (as some search engines display this description in the search result), make it more appropriate to your site. Put only targeted keywords in description. Do not stuff the description with more keywords. Restrict the number of words in this tag to 10 to 15 words.

• Place the most important phrases at the start of the description, so, even if any search engine omits some part of the description, the important phrases will be displayed.

6. Optimize the Meta Keywords Tag

The importance of Meta Tags is debated these days. So this is an optional extra.

• Include only the keywords that appear in the body text, and no more than 5-7 keywords. Add alternate spelling of words (including typos) and synonyms of those keywords.

Is It Easy To Make Money Online With Google Adsense?

Google Buzz
  • Delicious

google-adsense-logo-350_0Whenever you visit forums, groups and blogger hangout sites, Google Adsense will dominate discussions. People want to know how to make money online with Google Adsense. They want to know what the best size ad to run or even where to put that size ad. Google Adsense is just as popular as Google itself. To some online money making bloggers, learning how to make money with Google Adsense is so hard, that when they do start to make pennies per day, they get happy. I know I did. I was one of those bloggers who used to login to my Google Adsense account everyday just to see if I had made ten cents! And if I did, I got happy!

It didn’t matter that it took me 6 months to make the minimum threshold of $100, just as long as I made it. But now, I know the secret, if you will. And I’d like to share a few tips with you about making money online with Google Adsense.

Due to the terms and conditions of Google Adsense, I can not tell you how much I have earned. And you shouldn’t either. If Google finds out, they can and will terminate you from the program, and yo don’t want to do that. It could turn your online money making career into a short lived stint.

Many people brag about the riches and millions they make from home. I don’t brag. I just get up everyday and treat my blogging like a job. Monday through Friday I wake at the same time, make a cup of coffee, turn my radio on, and I research blogs, commenting on relevant blogs, and I write. I write keyword friendly posts about things people are searching for. Obviously if they are searching for it, they must have a problem that needs solving. I look at my blog as a problem solver. If you perceive your blog as being a problem solver in your niche, then making money online with Google Adsense will come easy.

With new enhancements to Google Adsense, you can even integrate your FriendFeed account with it. But, that’s in another post.

As far as positioning your Google Adsense ads, the best place is to have them front and center so that your reader sees them just after they read your title. You want to place your ads on pages that are of course, receiving the most traffic that way high traffic areas will reap high demand keywords. The higher the cost per click to the advertiser, the more money you will make per click on your site. So, don’t target low cost per click keywords. Don’t know how to find high cost per click keywords? Here is a free program I use daily that keeps me earning on Google Adsense…Find the Best Keywords for Your Business and Drive More Traffic to Your Website!

The reason your readers will click on Google Adsense ads and not most banners is because of the high credibility factor with Google itself. When your readers see the name “Ads by Google” that phrase is synonymous with trust and reliability. Your blog or website can become an instant hit if you strategically build a solid website around your ads and not the other way around.

There are two major, and clever, factors that some successful webmaster and publishers are learning to blend together in order to make money easier using Adsense.

1. Targeting high traffic pages on your website. If you check on your logs, you will discover that many of your visitors are taking advantage of the free affiliate marketing resources and ebooks that you are offering on your site. In simple words, your ads are working effectively and are generating more clicks. It also means more money for you.

2. Placing Adsense links on pages that are producing little, or better yet, no profit. By placing Adsense on a free resources page, you will reduce the amount of potential customers being lost to other sites. Tricky, but effective nonetheless.

When learned to work effectively, these two factors are actually a good source of producing a minimal amount of revenue from a high traffic page. Many people are using this strategy to pick up some extra and cash with Adsense. This is also especially rewarding to informational sites that focus their efforts on delivering powerful affiliate link free content to their visitors. Now they can gain a monetary return on their services.

With the many techniques that people are now learning on how to make the easiest money by their Adsense, it is not surprising that Google is trying everything to update and polish their Adsense in order to maintain their good image. Sign up for Inside Google Adsense. Its a weekly newsletter produced by the Google Adsense folks and there are invaluable tips and techniques on how to improve your earnings with Adsense. One thing you must do as a blogger is to continually improve, always keep getting better so you can make more money than you did before. Your goal is to learn more about Google Adsense so you can make more.

The one particularly handy money-making feature that is available with Adsense now is the ability to filter out up to 200 urls. These gives webmasters the option to block out low value offers from their pages as well as competitors to their websites. Talk about taking only those that are advantageous and discarding the ones that seem “useless”. Use this feature! You want to block out the ads that are not making you anything but pennies. That’s another mistake I was making, I wasn’t using all the tools that Google Adsense was giving me. Filter out the URLS that don’t earn you enough money. This is fairly easy to do. Simply sign into your adsense account and review your report. Go to Advanced Reports and click on “Go To Your Analytics Report.”

There you will find the keywords that visitors are using to find your site. Once you find the keywords, again use that tool I gave you the link for above, and input those keywords into the Wordtracker tool. Your report will show you how relevant your words are and the weight of the words. Then go back into Google Adsense and find out how much advertisers are paying for those words. Google Adsense will show you how much those clicks can bring you.

It can be a tedious process, but keep that in mind when you start earning those big Google Adsense checks every month!
