How Social Networking Can Save Education

Social Networking sites like Twitter and Facebook have become a part of the mainstream media these days.  Numerous reports appear daily on how the integration and use of social networking is as much a part of our lives as drinking water is.  Whether it is a story about Conan O’Brien picking a Michigan woman to follow on Twitter, or how the state of Georgia is restricting sex offenders from using Facebook, social networking is here to stay.

But, what really fascinates me more and more, is how people are actually using social networks.  It’s like social networks are replacing other forms of communication.  Maybe because its a quicker, more broad way of reaching a huge group of people.  Take a look at one of my peers and what he accomplished in just a few short hours using social networking. Dear Blog Engage Members, Can We Make History?

I’ve been thinking about social networking as an educational vehicle.

For me, I’m really interested in advancing the use of social networking in United States public schools, more specifically inner city students.  Because I am a product of the Detroit Public School system, my heart is anchored and focused on those students first.

Maybe its because the Detroit Public School system has a 25% graduation rate and is the nation’s worst performing urban school system (The blogprof.blogspot.com).  I have a crazy idea that involves social networking and education.  Hey, right now a school system such as Detroit’s is tanking fast, and needs something crazy and out of the box to save it.

Since social networking is about people and getting as many of them together to unite for one cause, I know that Detroit students could benefit from the use of social networking to further their education.

For instance, if Detroit Public School students had access to the internet, had computers to use at home, then they could integrate Facebook Fan Pages as a great social studies, economic/business and english writing exercises.  The educationally archaic method of teaching students in inner cities don’t work, just take a look at the graduation rates.

Our kids today are technologically advanced, thus they are bored with coming to class and opening a book.  Lets send our kids to school and have them turn on a computer.  This way we teach them how to do by giving hands on examples.  Researching a topic in American History or even Economics is way more fun when we teach students how to find the information, what sites are credible to use for research, then teach them how to utilize Word and Excel to enhance their reports.

ALL kids like mental challenges.  Boredom is a great dream killer.  No wonder many inner city kids decide to join gangs, sell dope, or just kill one another.  Its way more exciting than going to school and opening a dusty old school book that doesn’t even show any of the last 3 U.S. Presidents.

We need to change our thinking if we are going to reach our kids today.  Social Networking is one way to do it.  Parents buy their kids cellphones that can access Twitter, Facebook and MySpace all the time.  Let’s make good use of these skills and integrate these sites into the educational system.

Its worth a try, anything is because right now our kids are losing, the dropout rate is ridiculous, all while we complain about higher taxes, health care reform, whether a black U.S. President is failing the black race.

None of this will matter if our children, our future turn out to be as dumb as a box of rocks.  Can anyone spell s-l-a-v-e-r-y? That’s what happens when a society has no knowledge or makes use of it, that society becomes enslaved by a more superior culture or race.

What are your thoughts?  I’d love to hear them….leave a comment below or continue the conversation on Twitter or Facebook.

Social Networking Strategy That Won’t Fail!

Google Buzz
  • Delicious

Reduce their fear of buying on the internet by making yourself real. People are looking for the personal connection, they want to know that you are real. On your Facebook profile, you should have photos showing your life, who you are, what you like to do to have fun. Even travel and vacation photos are great ways for people to build a bond with your prospect.

You want to turn a warm prospect into a hot one. By integrating this strategy into the social networks, you can generate leads and make money using Facebook and Twitter.

Keep in mind that people don’t have you as the only person they are looking to do business with. Make your presence known. It helps that by having lots of friends and followers of course. Not even blogs tell people who you are. Social networking is about making connections and building relationships with strangers. Just because you are online does not mean they have begun to trust you. You must work on building a bond with your friends. If you don’t build a bond, you will struggle to make money online.

Did you know that you can increase your conversion rate by using video?

Using video, you literally come to life. You in a sense have become real to them. People will feel like they know you, a key element in developing a bond and a relationship with your prospects. Make a short video, introducing yourself to your prospects. Let them know that you are into marketing, and if there is anything you can help them with, ask them to let you know. You should start to receive comments and questions just from this short 20 second introduction.

Check out my YouTube video below. It’s just a short, silly blurb with me in a purple pimp hat having fun. To be honest with you, that’s what internet marketing is all about, having fun. If you can’t make fun of yourself, then, you’re in the wrong business. Being silly is just another part of me.

Can Social Networking Build Your List?

SOCIAL NETWORKING AS LIST BUILDING?

SOCIAL NETWORKING AS LIST BUILDING?

I’ve been playing around with headlines on my last couple of posts. Using headlines like: “Research Proves Twitter Prevents Blindness” and “Will Smoking Pot Cure Hemorrhoids?” It’s a jungle out here when it comes to creating a headline that is going to be SEO friendly and will grab your readers attention. So, I decided to give you a few tips on what you can do to write a headline that will grab your readers and will also be SEO friendly.

The race for traffic supremacy online is hot and many sites work together in the form of backlinks to gain more traffic. But what about the headlines? there are also ways in which you don’t have to pay so much to make yourself a good list of loyal followers. Having a satisfied web traffic and visitors allows you to put up a foundation wherein you can build an opt-in list and make it grow from there.

An opt-in list allows you to provide newsletters to your subscribers with their consent. But in today’s world, you can quickly build up a ‘list’ on Twitter or Facebook. Social networking is today’s ‘list-builder.’

Become a Twitter Expert in 24 Hours

When people follow you or become friends with you, they know that they will be receiving updates and news from your site and the industry your represent. But that doesn’t mean that all of those who follow you read them at all.  Your message still has to fall into the category of being the right message at the right time.  It has to be what people are looking for at that time.  People are bombarded daily with Twitter messages that offer great opportunities to make money online or to just receive free reports.  What makes your message any different from the next marketer?  How do you stand out from the crowd?

You can stand out by changing the method in which you market.  Understand that being patient and persistence will win the race.  What I’m saying that if you want to earn money from your ‘list’ on Twitter or your friends on Facebook, you must create a brand, create an image.  People trust brands because they have a reputation and some form of credibility.  In order to build up credibility, you must take the time to publish updates on Twitter and Facebook that are meaningful.  Relevant content, just like in blogging, will gain you more attention than your salesmanship.

One way you can do this is by providing well thought out updates. Make promotion of links and websites the last thing on your agenda.  Take it easy, and provide relevant updates to your followers and friends.  Copy a line from one of your more popular blog posts and use it as an update.  Leave out the link to the post, so that your friends and followers can think about what your posted.  Again, you’re building a brand, not a store (at least not yet.)

Of course your update must be short and sweet, due tot he constraints of 140 characters. Think of your updates as tasty, thought provoking morsels that your friends and followers will ponder.  Tickle the curiosity of the reader, while grabbing their attention at the same time.  Before you even post a sales link, you want to practice this strategy for 10-14 days.  Your credibility is at stake and it will pay off in the end.  Usually asking a question or just joining in on a pre-existing conversation will make others more curious about you.  Make sure you have your link in your profile though.  If someone wants to be your friend, they usually check out your profile first.

Once you develop a following on Twitter or Facebook, make sure you offer something free.  Like a report or ebook, people still like free.

DIRTY SLEAZY SEO TRICKS TO GET TRAFFIC

Google Buzz

DIRTY SLEAZY SEO TRICKS

DIRTY SLEAZY SEO TRICKS

Online, one of the most significant keys to success is getting traffic.  The more visitors you have, the better your sales and profits.  By now you have a niche and you know your keywords, and regularly conduct keyword research to stay on top of what’s popular.  Based on those assumptions here are five quick and easy tips to get website traffic fast!

Tip #1  Make sure you’re actually tagging your keywords.

Do you spend a lot of time optimizing your content and then neglect to tag them on your webpage?  Tags are where search engines look and if there are no tags they’ll pass right by your web pages.  Here’s a quick brief on tags.

There are a number of tag types including,

* Title tags.  Title tags are quite possibly the most important place to situate your keywords.  Here’s what they look like – <title>Primary keyword phrase here. </title>

Your title tag is where you place your primary keyword or keyword phrase.  The sentence will describe your business in less than 90 characters.

* Header Tags.  Header tags are next in order of importance to search engines.  They’re ranked in order of importance and look like this – <h1>Primary and/or Secondary keywords here</h1>

The “1” designates this header as the most important header on the page.

* Meta Tags. Meta tags provide the small descriptive text found underneath the title tag on the search engine results page.  Like title tags these should be kept brief, informative and up to date.

* Alt Tags.  Alt tags are used to provide a text description of a graphic.  Each graphic on your site should have a description and an alt tag.

Tip #2 Add content to your site daily

Content is essential for traffic and a top search engine ranking.  Content is what search engine spiders look for and index – without it there’s nothing to index or rank.  Give visitors and search engines a reason to visit and index your site. Make a commitment to provide daily, optimized content and your traffic will soar.

Tip #3 Procure valuable and relevant incoming links

The more websites which link to your webpages the more valuable search engines perceive you to be, though not all links are created equal.  Search engines give more leverage to links from sites which are popular and credible and from sites which are relevant to your website topic.

There are different types of links.

- A direct link looks like a basic website address, for example, www.yourwebsite.com

- A text link occurs when the webpage address is embedded in the text.  Readers simply click on the link and are redirected to a new website page.

- If the link is to an internal web page, for example an article published on a website, rather than the home page, it is called a “deep link.”

You can encourage linking to your website by:

* Adding content to your site.

* Submitting to article directories.

* Publishing press releases.

* Blogging and participating in social networking forums, chat rooms and social networking sites.

Tip #4 Be Social!

Now more than ever before, internet marketing is about building a community.  Whether you offer a forum on your website or you participate in social networking sites, social networking is a valuable traffic generating tactic.  Facebook and Twitter can be powerful tools for generating links and traffic to your site – create a profile and then post comments, links to your site and ideas which generate conversation.

Get involved – many chat rooms and forums are industry specific, find those which cater to your industry, and begin participating.  Speak to and connect with a highly targeted audience.

Tip #5 Advertise for more exposure and traffic

Advertising, when handled strategically, can be used to promote your content and products or services.  PPC advertising is often the tool of choice because you control the advertising budget on a daily basis and have the tools to test and track your advertising efforts.  Once you’ve honed your PPC ads the return on investment can be phenomenal in terms of traffic and purchases.

For maximum results, create a traffic and SEO strategy.  Outline your plan and your goals and then take the necessary action.  Take advantage of these five traffic and search engine tips to boost your business.
